a possibility, but it depends how many guys wanna play in such a league - i think  a fixed no. of games is the better choice

Pairings will be announced each Sunday starting with 070930 if at least 8 players joined HLL, otherwise Sunday after 8th player joined.

Assumption 1 (A1): No more than 12 parings in one season.
Assumption 2 (A2): No more than two matches (best-of-three) vs. the same opponent.
Assumption 3 (A3): No more than two pairings each week per player.

Step 1: Create a sorted player list (ascending) each sunday. Using

• ICQ Number (1. week)
• Surname (2. week)
• Ranking in HLL (3. week)
• Nickname on MP.org (4. week)
• Checksum ICQ Number (5. week)
• Ranking MPL (6. week)
• Forename (7. week)
• Back starting on top (8. week)

Step 2: Pairings will be made starting with top player of the list.

Pairing 1:
Player 1 (P1) if violation A1 or A2 â€" go to P2
P1 vs Pn/2 (rounded down) +1 (with n = number of players actually in the league)
If violation A3
P1 vs Pn/2 +2
If violation A3
P1 vs Pn/2 +3 ….

i think our biggest problem remains the lack of "constant" players. we had 1 early drop and others excluded for not playing enough games. other than that is quite competitive.
I have 2 sugestions.
1) since we´re starting the IV league, IMO it would be nice to have an overall ranking (all 3 league + further leagues)
2) i dont know exactly how the pairings are the done, but it´d be nice if we played with every player, ate least 1 game (perhaps like a footbal league, where every team/player has to play the same team/player twice, no more, no less...)

Not itself to the league but:

People should not clutter the forums and encourage others on the same behaviour by adding irrevelant noise in form: "I am available in the ICQ tonight from 6 pm. to 9 pm. Message me if you want to play".

A small nitpick but irritating if everyone started doing it: one can see when you're online and ask if you're willing to play.

i think ppl started doing that because they were having trouble arranging a common date, at least for me it was quite difficult to set up some of the matches... =/
but i can understand your point.
