i love to play with scapshift and since loam is banned now, i searched for a new way to get card advantage for my naya deck. before the banning of loam the deck was guwr. the blue was in to tutor for scapeshift and to get the loam engine going. now i play all 5 colors and scapeshift still works. black gave me the best tutor and some awesome removal. if you play sacepshift you obviously have to play a certain number of mountains (i figured out that 11 is the right number). this only hurts the mana base a little bit, because of the 8 duals you can play, that are also mountains. you also have to play many lands, so that 7 lands can get onto the battlefield. to protect me from getting flooded, i play some creatures which benefit from those lands and some mana-hungry cards.

here is the list i will play, if i get cobra, master and fauna shaman:

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
   1 [GP] Steam Vents
   1 [ZEN] Swamp (3a)
   1 Bayou
   1 [ON] Wooded Foothills
   1 Tropical Island
   1 Scrubland
   2 [ZEN] Forest (3)
   3 [ZEN] Mountain (1)
   1 [TE] Wasteland
   1 [ZEN] Plains (1)
   1 [RAV] Sacred Foundry
   1 [WWK] Raging Ravine
   1 [ZEN] Verdant Catacombs
   1 [ZEN] Arid Mesa
   1 [ON] Windswept Heath

1 [ZEN] Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
   1 Plateau
   1 [ZEN] Island (1a)
   1 [ZEN] Scalding Tarn
   1 [ON] Flooded Strand
   1 Savannah

can't play more manlands, because of the needed mountain count and the speed. i play many utility lands, because i can tutor them up very easy and they never hurt me (7 lands are needed for scapeshift).

   1 [ROE] Gideon Jura
   1 [CHK] Gifts Ungiven
   1 Demonic Tutor
   1 [M11] Sword of Vengeance
   1 Regrowth
   1 [AP] Vindicate

any ideas? i wonder if the sarkhan the mad is good enough.

GoblinPiledriver

I like your deck-concept. The mixture from ramp to midrange cards. This reminds me of my old 4C-Blood.

But there are a few questions:

Are the 3 Swords (SoLS,SoFI,SoV) not too much?

You play the Punishing Fire - Grove of the Burnwillows- Combo. How good can you support it? Is this the main plan for Gifts Ungiven?

Did Gifts Ungiven - Regrowth- Eternal Witness- Unearth(Recurring Nightmare) build a block for a combo? Or just for the right card.

You mentioned Sarkhan the Mad in your text, but in your deck you only play Sarkhan Vol.

My suggestion for this deck:

- Crop Rotation(too less good Targets(Maze,Wasteland))
- Naturalize    (not efficient enough)                               + Maelstrom Pulse
- Scryb Ranger  (so many purposes, but I miss efficiency)            + Borderland Ranger
- Vexing Shusher (controll-decks get rid of him very quick)          + Civic Wayfinder
- Kor Skyfisher (This creature is good, but this deck don't get much advantage)     + Sylvan Ranger
- Jotun Grunt (I have seen too many times that he survives only 1 or 2 turns)       + Sun Titan
- Relic of Progenitus (without Life there isn't the great need of grave hate and you play Recurring Nightmare by yourself)                                                            + Primeval Titan(Rampaging Baloth)

- Shadowmage Infiltrator (3 mana black and blue, doesn't fit in the GR/X build) + Mortify
- Gifts Ungiven ( + regrwoth parts) (I wouldn't play blue for 5 cards) + Doran
- Rafiq of the Many                                                    + Matca Rioters
- Trygon Predator                                                      + Putrid Leach
- Rhox War Monk                                                        + Reveilark
Throw enough goblins at any problem and it should go away. At the very least, there'll be fewer goblins.

thx for commenting, i will reply in a vew days (i am going on vacation right now).

Ball.Lightning

I also like your deck. I tried few games and it behawed mostly as agro trying to kill oponent with big creatures. Of course, there is scapeshift combo, but there are just 2 ways of getting scapeshift - either with demonic tutor or drawing into it(ok + intuition and Gifts). The deck must build around scapeshift to make it effecient, but I see winning throungh scapeshift more like coincidence. Do u think it is enought effecient to justify playing it?

In this build I would better see Natural Order.

As for cuts i agree with GoblinPiledriver mostly. But I would not get rid of blue entirely.

    1 [ALA] Ajani Vengeant
    1 [ALA] Sarkhan Vol

The deck started as an aggressive Naya Zoo but since black has much to offer (e.g. quality removal) I switched to 4ColorZoo. I like the inclusion of Scapeshift in Zoo decks which I have seen first in some versions of Extended Zoo decks last season.
Actually the best reason to play Scapeshift, which noone else mentioned so far, is to combine it with Steppe Lynx, Plated Geopede, Lotus Cobra and Vinelasher Kudzu. You play all fetch lands anyway, so there is no downside for adding Scapeshift+Valakut IMO. Main use is to get the most out of Landfall. The combo kill with Valakut to steal some games when the opponent is about to recover is just added bonus.

@Ball.Lightning: Don't forget to add Dryad Arbor if you want to play Natural Order!

Some other ideas about 5ColorZoo:
    - What do you guys think about some disruption/discard (Thoughtseize, Duress, Tidehollow Sculler, Gerrad's Verdict...)?
    - Where is Lightning Angel?
    - Are counters (Mana Leak, Remand, Memory Lapse, Delay,...) viable?

That's all from me for today.

the 3 swords are fine

You play the Punishing Fire - Grove of the Burnwillows- Combo. How good can you support it? Is this the main plan for Gifts Ungiven?
-it is not the main plan, but i can easyly get the grooves into play. this little vombo is great against other creature decks and can kill some walkers from time 2 time

Did Gifts Ungiven - Regrowth- Eternal Witness- Unearth(Recurring Nightmare) build a block for a combo? Or just for the right card.
- it is not in for combo

You mentioned Sarkhan the Mad in your text, but in your deck you only play Sarkhan Vol.
- i don't know about sarkhan the mad. do you think he is good enough?

My suggestion for this deck:

- Crop Rotation(too less good Targets(Maze,Wasteland))
    -and groove + manlands+ manafixing. i won't cut this

- Naturalize    (not efficient enough)                               + Maelstrom Pulse         -this is agood suggestion, i could also consider playing a seal

- Scryb Ranger  (so many purposes, but I miss efficiency)            + Borderland Ranger       -borderlandranger is bad

- Vexing Shusher (controll-decks get rid of him very quick)          + Civic Wayfinder         -wayfinder is bad too, shusher got cut

- Kor Skyfisher (This creature is good, but this deck don't get much advantage)     + Sylvan Ranger           -sylvan ranger is fine. i will try to make room for him. i really like sykfisher: manafixing and reusing cip creatures is fine+ he starts hitting on turn 3.

- Jotun Grunt (I have seen too many times that he survives only 1 or 2 turns)       + Sun Titan    -if he survives 1 turn. he did his job (4 damage), 2 turns is even better. sun titan is too expensive

- Relic of Progenitus (without Life there isn't the great need of grave hate and you play Recurring Nightmare by yourself)                                                            + Primeval Titan(Rampaging Baloth)     - in my meta i always need grave hate. titan is too expensive

- Shadowmage Infiltrator (3 mana black and blue, doesn't fit in the GR/X build) + Mortify       - no room for mortify atm. won't cut blue
- Gifts Ungiven ( + regrwoth parts) (I wouldn't play blue for 5 cards) + Doran                  -won't cut blue
- Rafiq of the Many                                                    + Matca Rioters
- Trygon Predator                                                      + Putrid Leach
- Rhox War Monk                                                        + Reveilark

The deck must build around scapeshift to make it effecient, but I see winning throungh scapeshift more like coincidence. Do u think it is enought effecient to justify playing it?
-this is exactly how this deck is supposed to play out. scapeshift is just another wincondition. see it as a luck-out. sometimes i even keep it on my opening hand, cause it is really strong

In this build I would better see Natural Order.
-don' think natural order is good enough here. i have no progenitus and no huge monsters i want abolutley to hit play.

- i don't think so. these are only good, if you hit your land drop every turn. and if you cast scapeshift, you win the game anyway. so there is no need for suboptimal cards.

now with more ramp/mana-fixing.

GoblinPiledriver

Well,
In your current build you only play 31 creatures(as I counted right). This is really not much especially for all the 3 Swords(+Rancor) that you are playing. I think Borderland Ranger and Civic Wayfinder are both better than Kodama's Reach and Cultivate. You need more a 2/2 creature than a basic Land.

Where is the Fauna Shaman (and Dark Confidant(yeah maybe too risky)?

Do you really think Lightning Angel would fit here?
Throw enough goblins at any problem and it should go away. At the very least, there'll be fewer goblins.

cedzoh

both coulivate and kodamas reach are out. i added more creatures (stonecloaker is back and great sable stag is in). creature count is now 33 (32 spells, 35 lands). i also fixed the mana-base. i play only 10 mountains now and added a fetchland:

// Lands
