1st match vs. Sturmgott with Oath
It's of course a good match-up for me and i tell you no secret when i say the key to win is simple:
Back to Basics. It makes it even easier if you are having some counter-backup.
But you also have some kind of "Plan B"  ;) - Winter Orb or Armageddon rather bounce or control are some strong weapons too.

2nd match vs Fips with Tokenmania
I'm usually chanceless vs his deck - specially if i just find one land in my first 13 cards. Fortunately he did the same :-) Our decks are like fire (Tokenmania) and oil (Fish) - i do not have a chance to contain it. This time it worked - i survived a long time and lost game 1. Game 2 my bounce + fliers gave me enough tempo to win. Finally i played Sigil of Distinction for the win. Game 3 time-out (lucky me  ::))

3rd match vs Christina with RG-Beatz
He played Vexing Susher and I've had 3 Counter-Spells so the end was clear and came fast. Game 2 he kept a 2-Land-Hand (1 nonbasic) - I've played Aether Vial and b2b and had a huge speed-advantage. Game 3 I've played Visions Turn1 and Cloudskate Turn2 - as i survived Turn 4 although he had River Boa + Sword of Fire and Ice (thanks to Bounce, Condemn) my card-advantage was enough to win this time.

4th match vs Tobi with Oath
He started with Mox + Fetch + LFTL  ::) Back to Basics destroyed quickly his dream he could have a chance ;D. As he handled b2b after a while i just dropped Winter Orb  :P Second game Land Tax Turn1 and Enlightened in midgame for.....yes of course b2b won me the game.

First game was kind of close.

Congrats for the 2nd place. Good to see an oath there in 2nd (again). Have you tested Progenitus?

No i haven't  ??? but i would have if there was a sign from above finding a copy in one of my boosters  ;D

2nd match vs Sturmgott's WW

First one was close. I managed to stay alive with Explosives and Tabernacle. Although he almost got me - surving with 2 LP, Akroma and Oath on the table. He was tapped out and Hellkite made the deal.

Second one was fast and easy starting with Oath and Moment's Peace.

Intuition for Life-from-the-Loam-Engine which he has never stopped. A cruel death came slowly but quite effectivly. Future Sight and lots of othe goodies vs 3 lands on the other side.

Playing vs Sturmgott G1, T1 - Sturmgott on the play dropping LoA...

..and he gave up T1 :O..why???

I've played T1 Mox Diamond (discard random land), Chrome Moxe (exil Primal Command), Wasteland + Demonic Tutor for Life from the Loam :P..gg! -> G2 (btw. he played Staxx)

btw. G2 i've won with a single card -> back to basics sealed the deal (as usual :O)


Finals vs Goblinpiledriver, G3 - he is on the play with Naya-Zoo and my hand didn't looked that good after spoils muligan so i gambled for 6 w/o Hl-mulligan -> no land -> took 5 -> keep

2 lands, Mox Diamond, Noble Hierarch, FoF

T3 FoF: p1: back to basics (he had 3 non-basics tapped), p2: Wall of Roots, Hermit Druid, Grazing Gladeheart, Solemn Simulacrum  ;D

Round 3 I've won vs 5C-Survival -> I was screwed he had LoA online but third land + b2b changed everything :) won twice just by dropping b2b

Stefan Czolk is a quite good Legacy player. I think he used the Legacy Doomsday-Combo-Decks as shell for his highlander version.

Need to tune the deck a little more against aggro. I think some control elements are needed here. Doomsday is also pretty awkward against them. And the mana needs some streamlining.

I had a similar one not too long ago. I also felt that the aggro matchup was worst. My plan against aggressive creature decks was Oath of Druids. Obviously that meant neither to play Cloud of Faeries (Emerald Charm instead) nor Dark Confidant or Hexmage. The addition of green however allowed for very powerful cardchoices (e.g. Regrowth, Eternal Witness, Oath of Druids, Pernicious Deed and some more).

g1: T3 Tabernacle and he cleared the board twice with Damnation and Devastation during the game - but i just need one green mana to recover for Elf + SoLS for the win
g2: he had bad draws, i had massive preasure for the win

g1: he had to react (Magma Jet on Elf, Vindicate on another Elf...) the first turns - i was still able to put enough elves on the board - wirewood symbiote and joraga warcaller with 4 counters are the matchwinners
g2: close game, in the end shriekmaw and rafiq raised by birthing pod made it in time for him
g3: BoP, Stoneforge (-> Sofi), Tarmogofy on my side - he had Aethervial, Goblin Guide, Rancor, Bitterblossom, Watchwolf - as i topdecks SoLS i was able to break the enemy lines (blossom tokens) and win

G1: Phyrexian Arena and Shadowmage Infiltrator revealed nothing helpful but Geth's Verdict, Diabolic Edict and lands - easy win for Tokens! - one decision made before the tournament was more important than the decisions made during that game...as i've decided NOT to play Tabernacle...played G1, T1: expedition map...would have been the gamebreaker with a better toolbox of lands
G2: he had Cradle - I'm too slow, once again no Buried Alive, Intuition, Tutor for me

R3 vs Christian H.
G1: T2 Confidant got countered, had some discard and Arena afterwards. Back to Basics on his side was no danger at all. Bribery for Wormcoil Engine which got killed once and came back via Animate Dead to join the nice army while he had all is dust in hand
G2: Midgame Dragon Combo

R4 vs goblinpiledriver
G1: T1 Expedition Map, Animate Dead and Vampire Hexmage in hand. Assembeld Dark Deapth combo but missed his Wasteland. From that point on i was in defense mode but didn't manage to stay alive as i topdecked nights whisper, land and discard.
G2: an early back to basics gave me enough time to gather what i need - intuition got "countered" by Mindcensor -> Buried Alive, Fact, Sensei revealed -> got Top. Snapcaster flashbacked Buried Alive for combo-win.
G3: Mental Misstep, Edict, Bone Shredder for his T1, T2 and T3 drop. A few turns later Intuition for combo-win.

I played a different decklist in GP, it looked better on paper and performed well in test-games + the first three rounds of GP. Since then i faced Scavening Ooze in 5 out of 7 games while luck seemed totally vanished and unconcentrated play get me a 1:6 record after starting with 6:1 in games. In the end 4:4 (11:9 games).

Maybe in one game Top was the reason. In another match I lost a game because of a stupid mistake. But in general it seems that I just have to practice playing faster  ::) . For example shuffling can make a huge difference, especially if the deck has a lot of tutor effects.

g1: after spoiling he had one colorless mana, going down to 6 don't give him a much better hand, easy win for me
g2: he had Black Vise which got countered (mental misstep), T2 Stigma Laasher destroyed my plan to recover with Consuming Vapors as i had no spotremoval, he burned me out before i assembled combo
g3: he had Black Vise again, i was flooded like hell and he finished me off with that "CC4 4/4 Flying Return Back to Hand Haste Dragon" while i've only Damnation on hand

g1: i've had B2B when he was tapped out with just non-basics on the table
g2: i assembled combo fast enough

r3 vs Dennis
g1: he played 3 non-basics and i've had B2B + Tabernacle on hand, but he won the roll so he has started the game with Mana-Dude and T3 Natural Order for Primevil Titan which ruined all my plans for that game
g2: i've locked him again with b2b but he had LftL this time + fecthlands in gy, i was colorscrewed on black and had 6 blue spells in hand after a long and frustrating game

g1: she has removal for Dragon i've got with bribery, had to use Animate-Spell on another Dragon to stay in the game, so i couldn't assemble combo anymore, Chandra's Phoenix + Burn were enough in the end to bring me down in time
g2: i used Buried Alive and had bout 5 or 6 turns to find tutor / reanimate-spell or board-soultion...4 lands, counter, gy-hate if i remember correctly... :-\

g2: i had cantrip, talisman, vindicate, Zur - the Enchanter which stayed on the board for a while and gives me B2B, Propaganda, Detention Sphere, O-Ring, Animate Dead for the win
g3: i blundered and hit his daze while he had t4 Natural Order for Titan again

g1: i contered his key spells and won with venser + vendillion clique
g2: he kept risky one-land-hand with lots of 2-mana-artifacts and i've had Wasteland, a few turns later: mana drain into bribery into Emrakul

still extremly pissed by this annoying critter everytime it hits the board although it makes my deck much better because I can play it and have lots of answers to handle TNN...usually

9-2-1 in last 12 matches with UB-Tempo-deck and half of it were decided by TNN i bet

half of the games? that sounds wildly exaggerated in a 100 card format and ub where you can only tutor for it with demonic tutor. maybe you drew it very very often, that percentage will go down eventually. "half of the games" is no benchmark for the performance of any creature.

that are 4 TNN in 3 games for me ...

ok "half of the matches" may be a bit exaggerated but such matches like stated above are far away from being an uncommon scenario
most of my opponents playing TNN too, often along with cards like Image, Bribery, Demonic, Worldly, Call, Tainted Pact

i should have written: TNN hit the board in almost half of the games i've played recently i bet - on the one side or the other

more interesting than all these pro tour/grand prix stats: 4c blood was apparently a fluke. it wins every other week but is not oppressive. in berlin its not even a viable deck, hardly tier 2.

As far as I understood it:
4c-Blood just was the first truly teched out deck after the mulligan changed. It was there before but not overly present, the numbers were right and it was just the deck that coped best with not being able to spoil into the perfect curve. And as people said when it was "the deck everyone talks about", it does not do anything inherently unfair. It "just" pumps out good cards.
So almost a year later, we have other decks that have their numbers right, quite the diverse meta (with 4c blood going down in numbers the UR deck has a harder time sneaking wins, which opened up the possible deck choices a bit) and playing the best cards without much synergy just is not broken in itself. It is still a good deck, but never was unfair and is not overpowered now. Also people of course understood how to play against it.

I wouldnt call it Berlin Jeskai, Jörn is from Halle and his version is very controlish while berlin jeskai lists are usually a bit more midrangy.
I will post my coverage soon so you can see for yourself how it was possible to beat UR ;) (it evolves around UR vs Jeskai not being a 90/10 matchup (we are speaking about 3 in 100 cards)

that is obviously true

Jörn's list has many coloured-mana-symbols and many unbasic lands
when you play vs. Izzet-Control and you tap out later than t3 you have to pray ... i don't like that feeling
g1 i stuck on 4 lands with ajani among other 7-cards in hand and island + 3 nonbasics in play - I decided not to discard and so I tapped out for ajani on an empty board which resolves, he dropped b2b and gg - i never had the chance to play another spell
g2 in midgame he resolves a Blood Moon - I got some fetchies, Brimaz, Elspeth w/o having the chance to find a white mana source not to mention a second one

i guess I could maybe win 3 or 4 out of 10 games against izzet maybe (if I'm lucky) but that bad feeling when tapping out vs Izzet won't disappear

4C Blood has at least some answers against a resolved B2B or Blood Moon (Golgari Charm, Abrupt Decay, Vindicate, Maelstrom Pulse, Reclamation Sage, Pridemage among others) but i can't see any chance for that Jeskai-list to handle it (ok - Venser, Repeal come into my mind but that isn't much).

but I have to confess that Jörn's Jeskai felt pretty good playing against piledrivers 4C Blood


but all games were / are unique - so I need to play more than 8 games to give a vote
i have to confess furthermore that playing (only) 8 basics in a Jeskai-Built is far away from being greedy and is more or less "state-of-the-art"

in g1 i stuck on 5 lands (but only 2 blue sources) with Force, Counterspell, Bring to Light, Merchant Scroll and Clutch of Undercity in hand
as I wanted to have counterspell + Force open I've done nothing for a while for preventing to be comboed out as TaZi already had enough lands in play to do so
two little beaters already took him down to 7 lp when he tapped out for Eternal Witness after counter-war
I bounced Witness with Clutch for 3 damage and attacked for leathal

in g2 I can win first Counter-war around his Scapeshift again but soon after he reassembled it casting Eternal Witness on Scapeshift and the win

in g1 I misplayed land so I couldn't conter his Knight of the Reliquary with Cryptic Command which could also have bounced his Gideon 0:1
in g2 I assembled the combo smoothly and won
in g3 he stuck on 2 lands while i was able to play Jace TMS which checked top card of this library from that on
